Assessment of turbulence correction for actuator-line model of a horizontal-axis tidal stream turbine in near-wake region

چکیده

Near-wake characteristics of a turbine play an important role in turbine–wake interactions and performance assessment arrays. In this study, the near-wake flow behind laboratory-scale tidal stream is simulated compared with experimental data. An actuator-line model used to represent rotating blades. Further, two physics-based turbulence corrections are proposed for unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (URANS) modeling turbine. These seek additional turbulent production near blade boundary layer tip shear region. The data analysis fluctuating velocity spectrum experiment highlights that kinetic energy (TKE) can be decomposed into three parts: background from onset flow, rotor-scale turbulence, blade-induced turbulence. dominates rotor plane decreases sharply beyond one diameter downstream. profiles TKE results show URANS enhance induced by rotation. It improve prediction region minor impact on loads wake velocity.

A Studyof the Design of Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine

In this using paper a method is presented for the aerodynamic and structural analysis of a horizontal axis wind turbine using simplified methods. In the first part of the program the optimum rotor configuration for twist and chord is determined using the momentum and blade element theories for a rotor without coning or tilting and assuming zero drag average wind velocity. Then coning angle and ...

Effects of Freestream Turbulence in a Model Wind Turbine Wake

The flow structure in the wake of a model wind turbine is explored under negligible and high turbulence in the freestream region of a wind tunnel at Re ∼ 7× 104. Attention is placed on the evolution of the integral scale and the contribution of the large-scale motions from the background flow. Hotwire anemometry was used to obtain the streamwise velocity at various streamwise and spanwise locat...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

Development of High Performance Composite Bend-twist Coupled Blades for a Horizontal Axis Tidal Turbine

An adaptive textile composite, sometimes referred to as a smart material or intelligent material, is a structure tailored to exhibit desirable elastic deformation behaviour not necessarily proportional to the imposed load. An example of such a structure would be a box beam so tailored that an imposed cantilever load results in twisting as well as bending, although no torsional load was imposed,...
